5 Tips To Stay Healthy In College

5 Tips To Stay Healthy In College : Staying healthy in college is crucial as it can impact your overall academic performance. Good physical health is also important for having good emotional and mental health. Therefore, we’ve put together five key tips to help you stay healthy and rock your college life. So, read them and incorporate them into your daily routine.

Health Tips for College Students

To ace your academic exams, you need to be in good health. Unfortunately, many students often fall sick during their academic years. And, it makes them ask themselves: who can write my essay for me?” This is because they don’t have the energy to do their assignments on their own. Thereby, to avoid falling sick and to stay fit, here are five basic tips to follow:

Keep your hands clean

As a child, you’ve likely heard it million times: “Please wash your hands.” It sounds like a petty request, right? But, it is a crucial one, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. In short, it is one of the healthy lifestyle tips for students.

All of us unknowingly can pick up hundreds of germs throughout the day. And, if we don’t wash our hands, they can make us sick by sneaking inside us. So, beat these bacteria and germs by washing your hands:

  • Before, during, and after eating and cooking
  • Before and after taking off your face mask
  • After touching pets
  • After using the toilet
  • Before and after visiting someone sick or caring for them
  • After touching garbage or bins
  • After coughing, blowing your nose, or sneezing
  • After catching grease or dirt on your hands

You may use regular soap and warm water to do the job. Antibacterial soaps may sound better. But, in actuality, they are no better than regular ones. Also, liquid hand wash is the same as bar soap. So, it doesn’t matter which soap you use; just make sure you do.

However, when it comes to water, it is recommended to use warm water. Room temperature water is not as effective as hot water that’s comfortable enough to use. But, it cannot kill the germs alone. Wet your hands with it, lather your hands with the soap, and scrub for at least 20 seconds. Then, wash with the same warm running water. Warm water and soap are more effective than cold soapy water. However, if you’re washing your hands regularly, you can use cool water. Remember to apply a moisturizer to your hands. Washing hands frequently can dry out the skin.

Last but not least, make sure you dry your hands well. Germs are known to pass more easily from wet skin. Use paper towels or rapid dryers to do so.

Clean Your Room Space Often

One of the important ways to stay healthy in college is to clean your room often. Your room is the place where you can bring in several germs unknowingly. When coming home or to your dorm from college or anywhere, take off your shoes outside the room. Your shoes may have attracted a lot of bacteria without you knowing it. So, it is better to designate a space for keeping your shoes. This space should be outside your room. Being a student, it’s normal to be careless and laidback. Not many of them care about removing shoes outside. But, if health is your priority, you need to keep all the germs at bay. When you walk in with your shoes on the carpet, you’re spreading germs everywhere around. This makes it easier for them to sneak into your room and then into your body. So, make sure you:

  • Keep the shoes outside.
  • Clean the carpet regularly.
  • Change your bed sheets regularly.
  • Wash your blanket regularly.
  • Change and wash your clothes regularly.

Doing so will ensure your room space is clean and germs-free. You may also use sanitizing sprays for your carpet and sheets.

Listen To Your Body

Some students don’t realize why is it important to stay healthy. Their ignorance can lead them to catch various illnesses.  Staying fit physically helps you stay emotionally strong. If you eat the right food and exercise, your body and mind will be strong enough to cope with academic stress. Also, a strong body can fight illnesses pretty well. Above all, eating right and staying fit as a student will also help you stay healthy later in life. Also, it is extremely important to listen to your body. If you’re exercising, and your body is yelling “STOP,” listen to it. If you’re studying for hours and your body is yelling, “BREAK,” take it.

Ask your body what it needs to feel better. Then, be ready to honor whatever it needs.

  • If your body is hungry, have healthy food for students.
  • If the body is anxious, try to calm it down by taking deep breaths. Or go for a peaceful walk.
  • If your body is tired, rest or take a nap.

This is one of the important answers to how to stay healthy in college.

Follow good hygiene habits

To enhance your overall health and minimize the risk of getting sick, follow good hygiene habits, such as:

  • Brush and floss every day.
  • Bathe regularly.
  • Trim your nails regularly.
  • Sleep good.

These habits will help you keep viruses, bacteria, and illnesses at bay. Practicing them also helps you feel good about yourself. Having a good feeling about yourself is crucial for your mental health. So, incorporate a good body hygiene routine into your life, and become a competitive and healthy student.

Have a reproductive life plan

Having a Reproductive Life Plan (RLP) encourages you to reflect on your reproductive intentions. It also helps you identify strategies for family planning, for instance, to avoid unwanted pregnancies or ill-health that can pose a threat to your health.

Your RLP depends on your personal goals. So, think about your academic or career goals when creating your RLP. Here are a few examples:

  • I will not have children until I finish my education or complete a degree. I will make sure I don’t get pregnant.
  • Before getting pregnant, I will make sure I am in good health, both physically and emotionally.
  • I will have only two children, but not until I turn 25.

All in all, staying fit is not just about eating the right food or working out. It is about how you make your body feel. It is about following a lifestyle that does not suck the life out of you. So, be sure you follow these tips and enjoy college life in good health.
