Two and a half years in to the COVID-19 pandemic and staffing shortages remain. Health systems are paying higher prices to secure workers. Supply costs are elevated and some service lines have not returned to pre-pandemic levels. As a result, many hospitals were operating in the red in the first half of 2022, with executives concerned about the financial ramifications when federal relief funding gives out.<\/p>\n
